The species and standing crops of periphytic algae attached on reed in two wetlands (the Banwol and the Donghwa wetland) with different water chemistry were investigated to evaluate the effect of water chemistry on the difference in communities of periphytic algae between two wetands in Korea. Cyanophyceae was the most abundant class ranging from 52percent to 93percent of total biomass, showing not difference between two wetlands. However, dominant species of Cyanophyceae were different between two wetlands, showing Phormidium faveolatum in Banwol wetland and Oscillatoria in the Donghwa wetland. On the other hand, the water chemistry was different between two wetlands, especially in nitrogen and phosphorus. The mean concentrations of TN and TP at the inlet of two wetlands were 14.5 mgN/L, 0.18mgP/L in the Banwol wetland and 8.2 mgN/L, 0.44mgP/L in the Donghwa wetland, respectively. This result indicates that the different water chemistry may affect on the community of periphytic algae attached on plant in wetland ecosystem. |
