Efficient non-destructive survey methods using seismic P-wave and S-wavereflection signals to get the dynamic material properties and the structures of dam bodywere developed. The developed methods were applied to the CFRD type dam in Koreaof which height is 52 m and the results were remarkably satisfactory. The results gavedetailed velocity distribution of seismic waves and clear inner structure of dam. Theworks shown here strongly suggest that the high resolution reflection seismic surveycombined with P-beam and S-beam methods is one of the most powerful tools indetermination of dynamic properties and visualization of inner structure of dam becausethis method gives the direct velocity distributions and images. From the results, the rockfill zone of studied dam has a range of 450 to 1000 m/sec in P-wave velocity and 200 to570 m/sec in S-wave velocity. The Poisson’s ratio of the dam ranges from 0.25 to 0.35also. It is believed that the values are favorable in comparing with other previous studyin rockfill dam which used direct measurement, i.e., borehole P-S logging. The obtaineddynamic material properties can be used as important input parameters in evaluation ofdam safety and behavior of dam body by use of numerical analysis. |
