The purpose of this study is to discuss a real dissolved air flotation (DAF) plant operated by Korea Water Resources Corporation. The plant, installed in Songjeon drinking water treatment plant (SWTP) is the first real application of the DAF process in Korea. From the results observed in this study, the DAF process was efficient for the treatment of high turbidity water, which occasionally occurred during a heavy rainfall season in Korea. The fixed weir-equipped DAF process showed insufficient removal of the floats by the skimmer. To solve this problem, a “variable weir” was developed. The variable weirequippedDAF process led to a more extensive range of flow rate (400-1100 m3/h), at which the float can be removed easily by the skimmer, than that (900-1100 m3/h) in the fixed weir-equipped DAF process at rates ranging from to. The application of PAC to reduce the chlorinated by-products provoked the increase of turbidity in the influent water of the DAF process. The DAF process was efficient in removing turbidity, showing no significant difference between PAC addition and no PAC addition. |
