Korea is to improve water quality, to restore ecosystems, and to create multipurposespaces for local residents and regional development centered on rivers. Through thisproject, by 2012, the water quality of the mainstream will be improved and theecological rivers, wetlands will be restored and the farmland will be readjusted torehabilitate the ecosystem. Rivers will turn into multipurpose areas for lifestyle,leisure, tourism, cultural activities. Moreover, green growth projects including Clean-IT sensors to manage the river environment and disasters, digital tour system, andsmall hydropower power plants are also promoted. This paper will evaluate thevarious projects and provide the political implications.
