| Cake resistance on the microfiltration membrane with different pH conditions |

The objectives of this study are to systematically investigate cake resistance attributed to particulate, organic, inorganic and their combinations in microfiltration membrane systems. Then, pH of feed water was adjusted by adding variable acidic and alkaline reagents to observe the behaviours of cake resistances with different pH conditions.In this study, lab-scale microfiltration system was employed with a dead-end mode filtration in which cake resistance could be calculated with experimental data such as flux and trans-membrane pressures (TMPs) by using resistance in series model. Chemicals used in this experiment were hydrochloric and sulphuric acid for acidic pH condition and sodium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite for alkaline pH condition. It was expected that the current study also could provide insight into the influences of cake resistances on membrane fouling and/or periodically cleaning procedures in microfiltration membrane systems. |
