| Automatic Flushing Control System using Online Water Quality Monitoring in Water Distribution Network |

Water quality monitoring in distribution systems is an effective means of managingdetrimental conditions of drinking water; these conditions are a result of discolouration in the water,unsuitable taste and odour of the water, disinfectant residuals in the water, etc. In this study, anautomatic flushing control system is developed by incorporating an online monitoring system with anautomatic drain valve. The developed system measures turbidity, concentration of chlorine residuals,and pH in 10 min intervals. The control valve is opened to control water quality by flushing waterwhen high turbidity and low chlorine residuals are detected. The valve status, opening ratio, and flowrate released, are also monitored. The developed system is installed in NS city of Korea, and it isexpected to increase customer satisfaction with regards to water quality. |
