In order to provide a new concept of water supply system that is more sustainable into andbeyond the 21st century, small and decentralized water treatment plants and distributionsystems have been suggested for ensuring water security which consists of stability andsafety, reserving redundant water for emergency and preventing secondary contamination indistribution system. Even now, aging and deteriorating water infrastructure is a priority issuefor Korea. Over the last several years, the limitations by conventional big and centralizedwater supply system have been found out continuously. Therefore, it is imperative thatdevelopment of small and decentralized water treatment plant, more efficient equipment andtreatment technologies, application of renewable energy should become a part of the system. In this study, engineering development of multi-storey water treatment plant introduced in thedecentralized water supply system was carried out. Design concept so called tankless systemwas proposed and applied to demonstration plant design. Stability on flow and pressure oftankless system was evaluated using lab test and numerical simulation. Water purificationdemonstration facility (1,000 m3/day) design has been completed and it was expected that thetankless system design applied to water treatment plant would be optimized. |
