UNCERTAINTY OF DESIGN FLOOD FOR DAM RISK ANALYSISThe lack of sufficient flood data being kept across Korea has made it difficult to assess reliableestimates of the design flood while relatively sufficient rainfall data are available. In this regard, arainfall simulation based derivation technique of flood frequency curve has been proposed in someof the studies. The main issues in deriving the flood frequency curve are to develop the rainfallsimulation model that is able to effectively reproduce extreme rainfall. Also the rainfall-runoffmodeling that can convey uncertainties associated with model parameters needs to be developed. Inthis regard, this study proposed a Bayesian single event rainfall-runoff model coupled with amultisite rainfall simulator to better quantify the overall uncertainties associated with design stormsand model parameters. The proposed model was applied to generate a runoff ensemble at DaechungDam watershed, and the flood frequency curve was successfully derived. The derivation techniquebased on Bayesian models allowed to better quantify the overall uncertainties associated withvarious uncertainty components and to better manage the residual risk associated with theuncertainties. |
