Residual pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are occurred by various human activities and agriculture and livestock productions. South Korea’s highly urbanized population concentrates the quantity of PPCPs consumed and increases the exposure to water treatment. In this study, 25 species PPCPs in raw water were monitored for drinking water treatment. The raw water samples were collected from 6 water treatment plants for 3 years. The PPCPs were analyzed in different river basins and water temperature conditions. Some of the selected PPCPs such as Caffeine, Iopamidol and Benzophenone were consistently detected in all the raw water samples during the monitoring. The highest concentrations of the analyzed Iopamidol were found in raw water from a water system with a nearby metropolis. Caffeine concentration change was affected by water temperature unlike Iopamidol and Benzophenone results. |
