Various failures of infrastructures considered as an important pillar of economic development occur during their construction and operation, and consequently legal disputes between stakeholders over the cause and responsibility of the failures continue. In order to prevent similar failures in the construction sector, the government has enacted or amended the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Construction Technology Promotion Act respectively, and organizes the construction accident investigation committee in case. However, at present, detailed technical regulations or guidelines of investigation methods and procedures for causes of construction accidents are insufficient, and there is no system for education and training of related technical experts. This study, through reviewing the ASCE's Guidelines for Failure Investigation and education and training systems, presents how to institutionally and technically improve our guidelines for construction related failure investigation.
