‘Digital twin’ technology is used to allow interaction between the physical and digital world. In the water resources industry, a digital twin can be a useful tool to improve the efficiency of operation and maintenance of dams and rivers. Data-driven digital twin platform against flood may be particularly efficient to enhance intuitive understanding of the whole watershed safety and to help optimal decision making. In this paper, we introduce a pilot project to build a digital twin water management platform for the entire 173 km-long Sumjin river basin in South Korea. We name the platform, ‘K-Twin SJ.” This project includes high-precision 3D geospatial informatization of the whole watershed, real-time water management data visualization, flood analysis simulation, AI (artificial intelligence) dam operation optimization, AI slope geometry generation, levee safety evaluation, AI intelligent video surveillance, and advanced drone monitoring system. Three types of dam and river simulations are implemented on the platform ? the rainfall-runoff model, hydraulic river flow prediction model, and river |
