Microplastics originating from plastic usage are continually being detected and have emerged as a significant issue due to their potential risks to the environment and human health. Particularly, microplastics smaller than 20μm are of concern as they can be absorbed by the human body, causing intestinal damage, liver infections, and metabolic disorders. This analysis utilizes infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy to measure microplastics. Both spectroscopic methods effectively identify and analyze microplastic particles non-destructively. Each technique allows for the determination of the type, size, location, and shape of plastics through molecular vibrations and microscopy. The standard method, infrared spectroscopy, is limited to analyzing relatively large microplastics over 20μm, while Raman spectroscopy, although more complex and time-consuming, is suitable for analyzing smaller particles between 1~20μm. Thus, FT-IR was employed for measuring microplastics larger than 20μm, and Raman spectroscopy was used for particles sized between 5μm and 20μm. Filters used for sample filtration included a 20μm STS filter, a 5μm silicon filter, and a 1μm silicon filter. Among the particles obtained from the sample measurements, only some were identified as |
