Drone photogrammetry is a prominent technology for digitalizing real-world assets. It is particularly effective for safety inspections, such as deformation monitoring of infrastructure, by enabling reality modeling of hard-to-reach areas. This paper investigates the applicability of drone photogrammetry for deformation monitoring of unstable slopes. The study site is a steep slope supported by a retaining wall adjacent to a reservoir. The slope is experiencing gradual erosion, but human access for investigation is difficult. Ground control point surveys and drone imagery were used to create photogrammetry-based reality models over three separate periods. Successful 3D reality models were created using photogrammetry, and the extent and volume of the eroded slope were quantified through GIS spatial analysis. The progression of slope failure was assessed, and gradual deformation near the retaining wall was effectively monitored. In conclusion, deformation monitoring of eroded areas within the reservoir zone using drone photogrammetry has been verified to be highly reliable and capable of producing quantitative results, confirming the validity and scalability of the technology, especially in areas where human access is challenging. |
