The thermodynamic efficiency measurement is carried out with the direct procedure based on IEC standard 60041, in a high-head hydropower plant. There are two Francis turbines installed with a new designed runner and an old one, respectively. The thermometer with the accuracy of 0.001 K is employed to reliably estimate the turbine efficiency. The hydraulic efficiency in turbine with the new runner was measured in the operating range of 40 % to 100 % of the rated flow rate. According to IEC 60041, the reliable results were selected to fit the performance curve. The uncertainty of turbine efficiencies was 0.66%. In addition, the plant efficiency was evaluated, which would have a major effect on determining optimal operation conditions of the hydropower plant.
