This study provides an integrated evaluation framework for calibrating and validating the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) using SWAT-CUP,addressing three major dimensions of model uncertainty: the selection of objective functions, the configuration of simulation runs and iterations, and theincorporation of multi-site and multi-variable data. In the first part, eight objective functions―R², bR², Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NS), modified NS (MNS),Kling-Gupta efficiency (KGE), percent bias (PBIAS), root mean square error ratio (RSR), and sum of squared residuals (SSQR)―were applied to a watershedin the Nakdong River basin. The analysis revealed that each function emphasized different hydrologic behaviors, producing divergent parameter sets. Toaddress this, hydrologic signatures that capture the magnitude and shape of the hydrograph were used to assess performance comprehensively. MNSand SSQR were found to be the most balanced functions for hydrological calibration, based on a scoring system. |
